The Analytical Sciences group within the Technology organization of Phillips 66 is currently seeking applications for a Scientist at the Phillips 66 Research Center in Bartlesville, OK. The position requires a broad knowledge of high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry, as well as hardware and software aspects of these platforms. Other requirements include excellent communication skills and ability to solve analytical problems while working closely with other scientists and technologists within and outside the Analytical Sciences Group. Experience in the petroleum industry would be a benefit.
Responsibilities May Include
Working safely in a laboratory environment.
Applying HPLC and mass spectrometry methods to solve challenging problems for Phillips 66 R&D and operations.
Using technical expertise to solve problems and assist with special projects for Phillips 66 worldwide operations.
Developing and implementing new HPLC and mass spectrometry approaches and methods for the analysis of variety of sample types, including petroleum, petroleum products, process water, and sludge.
Routine quality control, calibrating, maintaining and upkeep of the HPLC and mass spectrometry instruments in the laboratory.
Communicating analytical developments and outcomes through technical presentations, technical memoranda, research reports, and patents.
Collaborating with stakeholders and research staff to deliver on company strategy and meet project milestones.

Masters degree or higher in Chemistry
Ph.D. in Chemistry, with a strong technical background in mass spectral analysis, hardware, and software
5 or more years of experience in HPLC and/or mass spectrometry
Strong and proactive approach to safety
Excellent working knowledge of HPLC, supercritical fluid chromatography, and mass spectrometry
Demonstrated use of mass spectrometry for problem solving
Ability to recognize and select the appropriate mass spectrometry technique for fast solutions to analytical problems
Familiar with the use and applications of many types of mass spectrometry ionization techniques
In depth knowledge and experience with at least one major type of mass spectrometer, i.e. TOF, IT, quadrupole
Ability to resolve mass spectrometer hardware and software problems
Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience working in a collaborative team environment
Experience in characterizing unknown materials and materials related to the energy industry
