The Analytical Sciences group within the Technology organization of Phillips 66 is currently accepting applications for a Chemometrician at the Phillips 66 Research Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Responsibilities May Include
Working safely in a standard laboratory environment.
Designing experimental methodologies, collecting data, and developing chemometric models to predict a wide range of properties on optical bench and online spectrometers.
Applying spectroscopy and chemometric tools to solve challenging problems for Phillips 66 R&D and operating plants.
Operating spectroscopy instruments such as Near infrared, Mid-Infrared, and Raman.
Maintaining proper operation and calibration of instruments.
Preparing samples, processing and reviewing analytical data.
Communicating analytical developments and experimental results in technical reports and presentations.
Seeking new opportunities to create value across the Phillips 66 energy value chain through Spectroscopy and Chemometrics.
Collaborating cross-functionally with stakeholders to deliver on company strategy and meet project milestones.
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemometrics, Applied Mathematics or closely related science or engineering discipline
2 or more years of experience working with spectroscopy techniques
Strong proficiency and experience in MATLAB, PLS toolbox and other statistical and chemometrics software packages
Strong and proactive approach to safety
Strong background in Analytical Chemistry, Instrumental Analysis, Multivariate Statistics, general linear and non-linear modeling
Ability to let MATLAB scripts effectively communicate with third party spectroscopy software packages and deploy chemometric models
Excellent oral and written interpersonal skills with experience in communicating technical information at a high level
Knowledge of Python, R, and/or Tableau is a plus
Knowledge of multi-block, multi-set, multi-level, and data fusion methods as applied to scientific data
Understanding of tools for uncertainty estimation and analytical figures-of-merit and for multivariate calibration
Knowledge of best practices in design of experiment, data collection, interpretation, trending, and statistical process control
Knowledge in spectroscopic data and hyperspectral imaging
Experience in handling data from other analytical instruments is a plus
Attention to detail, ability to work independently and as part of a project team, and ability to apply practical approach to solving real-world problems
Knowledge of higher-level programing languages is a plus
